Spread the love

You simply cannot celebrate Oktoberfest without an authentic Oktoberfest beer. Paulaner, one of the only six breweries in the world that can produce such a beer, brought its Oktoberfest Bier (that’s German for beer) to the Philippines!

A night of revelry, games, music, and—of course—overflowing beer happened at the Draft Restaurant and Brewery in Rockwell, Makati last October 17 as Paulaner Philippines capped its series of October festivities with Draftoberfest.

After a quick opener on the history of Oktoberfest and Paulaner at around 7 in the evening, there were trivia games on beer, Germany, and Oktoberfest. Sausage eating contests and a mug and chug challenge followed, with the longest to hold three Oktoberfest mugs and the fastest to chug beers taking home official and commemorative merchandise, and yes, more beer!

“Since we restarted holding Oktoberfest celebrations here in the Philippines two years ago, connecting with people who love and enjoy top quality beer has been something Paulaner has always looked forward to,” said Alessandro Hermoso, marketing head for Paulaner Philippines. “It’s no secret that Filipinos love beer, that’s why Paulaner is here to provide mugs full of the best there is.”

According to Paulaner, its Oktoberfest Bier, which features the perfect balance of a light taste in hops and a strong note of malt, is only brewed during the weeks-long celebration. So the only time you can get a taste of it is only until October!

A ticket to the event included two glasses of beer: one is the Oktoberfest Bier while the other is a choice between the Munchner Hell (lager) or the Weissbier (wheat beer) and complimentary dinner and snacks.

The lager has mild and elegant malts with a tinge of sweetness and a soft hint of hops in the background while the wheat beer is a delight for long-time beer drinkers. At first, it has traces of banana aroma while more refined palates can detect a tinge of mango and pineapple with a good balance between sweet and bitter.

The Draftoberfest followed similar celebrations at the Mansion Sports Bar and Lounge in Makati last October 4 and at Brotzeit in BGC, Taguig last September 29. If you’re wondering why, the real Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany runs from mid- or late-September to early October.

At Mansion, Paulaner led the festivities with a series of games after the classic German tradition of chugging beers and eating sausages. Local band Lacrema Manila and DJ Diego Gutierrez provided the tunes and beats for the night.

While at Brotzeit, world-renowned performers Anton Show band flew all the way from Austria to the Philippines to sing, dance, and hype up the crowd Oktoberfest-style!
