It was reported a few weeks back that the upcoming 2024 State of The Nation Address (SONA) was allegedly set with a budget of a whopping P20 million. Of course, many cried foul at such a huge amount being shelled out in just one day for 2,000 attendees, especially since millions of Filipinos are suffering from hunger.
The government has since defended the huge amount, saying that it will cover essential aspects of the event such as staff meals and security details. But we still wonder: how much food can P20 million cover? Here’s what we came up with:
151,515 1-piece chicken with spaghetti and regular drink
2,857 whole Lechon, good for 15 people
33,333 whole Chocolate Cake, good for 8-10 people
26,701 orders of Pepperoni Pizzas, good for 4-6 people
20,000 bilaos of Pancit Malabon, good for 21-25
25,000 pieces Crispy Pata, good for 3-4 people
74,074 orders of 5-pc Pork Barbecue
111,111 orders of premium Iced Coffee
133,333 glasses of Halo-halo
400,000 pieces of Asado Siopao Special
Reflecting on it now, 20,000,000 million pesos may not be much when it comes to answering the country’s big problem with hunger in relation with the rising food expenses and food scarcity. However, its still an effective amount that can be given to programs that can address the shortage of food in the country, if used wisely. What do you think about the P20 million food budget? What food would you buy if your had 20,000,000 pesos? Let us know!
