Numerous restaurants and eateries are presently offering refuge and comfort through freebies and temporary refuge in their establishment. While it’s not mandatory to offer this kind of service, it’s heartwarming to see how food businesses are looking out for their customers. Unfortunately, though one notable restaurant took a rather tone-deaf approach to invite customers to their branches.
In a now-deleted post, Mendoko Ramenba, one of the metro’s popular ramen places shared and took the opportunity to call the current state of calamity happening in Manila as “ramen weather.”
As the message further read, “Our stores are still open to serve you the #QuintessentialRamenExperience. Come, we’ll keep you warm and dry.
Many netizens were outraged at the marketing post citing it as distasteful and insensitive, especially with so many Filipinos suffering and displaced due to Super Typhoon Carina.
One netizen even thought that the post was a call for shelter but upon reading carefully, he realized it was a marketing ploy.
“From one social media manager to another, as well as a fellow human being, this is not the time. It’s not “ramen weather” when people are dying Mendokoro Ramenba.”
A few hours after the initial post, Mendokoro released a statement in their social media accounts regarding the issue.
After this mess, we hope everyone would do their best to reflect on their actions, which could trigger a lot of unnecessary hate. Let’s all refocus our efforts to help the people who are in need the most especially during these hard times.
Mendokoro Ramenba is a brand of Nippon Hasham which has been in operation since 2011. It currently has 5 branches in Manila and Cebu. Ramen Yushoken and Marudori Ramenba are also under the Nippon Hasha brand.
