For more than 30 years, people would conveniently buy Polly’s Chocolate Cake in the Select store of Shell Magallanes gas station. It became an open secret for chocolate cake lovers: a fudgy, moist square-shaped chocolate dessert that can be easily be purchased in the gas station when you’re traversing along the stretch of the SLEXsouthbound lane coming from Manila.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Just this afternoon, as shared in a social post by the brand, the beloved chocolate cake maker announced that it will be pulling its cakes off the shelves of the Shell Select Magallanes gas station after August 7.
The post begins by addressing their loyal customers with gratitude for choosing their cake to be a part of many milestones and occasions.
“First of all, let me express my deepest gratitude and appreciation for being so loyal to Ms Polly’s cakes. The team and I take great delight at the thought that you have continued to enjoy our cakes over so many years. We have celebrated many milestones together—from birthdays, christenings, and debuts to proposals, weddings, anniversaries, pregnancy cravings, break-ups, and when you just wanted a slice of cake without the frills. It is especially heartwarming for us to be part of your Christmas or New Year’s Noche Buena table. We are grateful beyond words.”
It then continues to explain the situation at hand underlining their grief of halting their partnership with the gas station that has carried their cake since 1990. It seems the gas station complex requires major renovations consequently stopping its daily operations.
“As a family-run business, we have worked hard to maintain the quality of our products. Your loyalty is our motivation and our reward. We have been with Magallanes Shell Select since 1990 and it was a flawless relationship. And so, it is with some sadness that I have to inform you that tomorrow, August 7, will be the last day for purchasing our products in Magallanes Shell Select. They will be renovating the complex for some time. I will miss them as much as you will.”
The post though ends on a sweet note, with Ms. Polly promising that it is working on a new outlet for its products and that orders can still be made through their commissary based in Merville, Paranaque.
